Traditional oil based stains formulated from dyes, bitumens and aromatic solvents.
Best applied with an absorbent rag such as towelling, hosery cloth or stockinette. The slow drying nature of oil stains allows them to be worked into the surface of the timber.
Excess stain should be removed prior to finishing with a clean rag or kitchen towel.
Wear protective gloves when working with oil stains, vinyl or nitrile gloves are suitable.
Allow several hours to dry before finishing. Hot air via a heat gun may be used to speed up the drying process.
Heavy aromatic organic solvent vapours will be released as the oil stain drys - work in a well ventilated area or use an organic fume mask when using oil stains.
